General Information:

A World War II aircraft is an airplane that was used in World War II. The United States armed forces developed airplanes fast during World War II. The enemies of the United States would have to look out for the new aircrafts that would attack their boats and aircrafts.4)

World War II Aircraft:

In World War II different kinds of airplanes, bombers, and transports were built hastily. Biplanes came into the action in the beginning; jet aircraft glided through the skies over Germany in 1945. The Americans made the "mostest of the bestest," in different words, the biggest numbers of generally amazing warplanes. The biplanes that were used in World War I were enhanced by aluminum airframes that usually were flown by strong piston engines. When the British had the Spitfire, Germans the Messerschmitt, the U.S developed a successful P-51 Mustang similar with the British, and introducing vital upgrades like the long-range bombers, that could, hence the name, bomb from a longer range.1)

United States Aircraft:

The United States had eleven types of fighter planes. They also had six types of bombers.2) Spitfires became known for their ability to make tight turns, quick climbing rate, and speed. The plane could outsmart most German fighters. Spitfires helped win in the Battle of Britain against Germany in 1940.1) Also, there were B-17s which were known as Flying Fortresses because of their thick armor and ability to hold up to thirteen guns. The United States used these aircrafts for daytime bombings on Germany.3)

German Aircraft:

Two of the German fighter aircrafts were the Messerschmitt Bf 109 and the Focke-Wulf Fw 189. The Messerschmitt Bf 109 was one of the first few fighters in that time period. The plane was designed by Willy Messerschmitt. The Focke-Wulf Fw 189 was a twin-engine and it sat three people. The plane first flew in 1938. 3)

Enola Gay

The Enola Gay is World War II's most famous aircraft. It dropped the world's first atomic bomb. The plane dropped it on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. The plane was made in Omaha. The Enola Gay's pilot's name was General Paul Tibbets. The atomic bomb's blast was equivalent to 20,000 tons of dynamite. The bomb killed 80,000 people immediately.
The second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. That bomb killed about 70,000 people. 7)
